Book Review: Good Things - Kevin Gerald

Blogging for Books provided Good Things by Kevin Gerald to me free. I am not required to give the book a great review it does deserve it. From the first words the book Kevin states we have not earned Gods favor, he freely gives it to us. This is a concept that is hard for us as humans that have been hardwired for so many years to had to earn acceptance and favor whether it’s from parents or coworkers.
Kevin brings many examples from his own life such as an incident as a teen where he wrecked a new car. He feared his father’s disapproval but instead of chastising him, his father was glad he was okay – a new car can be bought; but a son cannot be replaced. Another example he gives us is an issue he had at the airport in which he goes on to state his displeasure of dealing with the airline staff. Even then, God did not show disfavor towards him nor the airline worker. The biggest take away from this book is the concept of a ‘favor faucet’ and how it never stops flowing even when you become content, God still shines his favor on you and will lead you where you need to go. Kevin also touches on those different seasons, whether we refuse to follow Gods urging and his path for us, become complacent in life or in a relationship, and choose to follow our own path.  No matter what season of life we are in God always affords his favor to us, we just need to let go and see what he has in store. As the author states at the end ‘Gods favor last a lifetime!’

I recommend this book for anyone who is in a tough season and feel abandoned and lost. God is always there.

Book Review: The Grace of God

*This book was provided to me by booksneeze to review. My review is solely my own.*
The Grace of God by Andy Stanley is a compelling read about how to find and seek redemption and finding your way back to the security of God’s grace. It shows us that God does not have to but he willingly gives us his grace. When I first picked up the book, it was slow starting and it did not capture my attention right away. It did not intrigue me that much but after a few, I got into it. With multiple stories showing how God’s grace can effect different situations; it makes for a great nighttime read as something to ruminate over whilst you sleep or even just one to pick up read a chapter to give you something to think about during the day.

As I stated it took me a while to get into it; however once I did, I realized that it is a humbling read. The Grace of God states that God’s grace is still very much available to us today; just as it was in Biblical times, we just need to seek it. I would recommend this book to my friends and family as a must read not only for the wonderful telling, but also that it gives us a basis on which to establish ourselves in His grace

In progress.

Over the last few weeks I have been working on a few things. One of these is a pair of knitted garter stitch mittens. This is only one of them.

It's a but rough but considering this is my first pair I think it's okay.

Bringing Down the Debt

As I move into a new age in life I like many other Americans are burdened with astornomical amounts of debt. I can confidently say I owe so much debt just in regards to student loans that I could buy a good sized house with land! I would actually like to buy a house in the future or at least build one, a tiny home perhaps?

Over the last few years I had tried budgeting, didn't work well as other issues arose. For the next few months I will be using bits of Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace Uniersity as well as nospending months (thats gonna be hard), learning how to coupon effectively all while bringing down the debt house and destashig my life in more ways that one to build a content and happy place for my kids and I. Please join me as I take this step into a new direction in life.
